Brian Pope

Brian Pope is a Managing Partner at Pilot Growth Equity. Brian’s over 18 years of professional history encompasses a broad range of experience across private equity investing, corporate development, investment banking and financial management.

Brian joined Pilot Growth from Barings, a global institutional asset management firm. Previously at Barings, Brian was a Managing Director in the alternative investments business providing private equity investment management services. He was responsible for oversight of the investment management function for the private equity fund and direct investment program and a member of the Investment Committee, while also serving as the portfolio manager for the growth equity and venture capital portfolio. Brian’s attributable investment activity encompassed 20-plus investments in the technology, healthcare and financial services sectors, including direct private company investments primarily focused on B2B technology and tech-enabled services businesses. In addition to these investment management responsibilities, Brian led firmwide corporate development initiatives involving acquisitions, product development and business development efforts, including leading the establishment of a new mutual fund platform and direct private equity investing programs. Prior to Barings, Brian served as an Associate at a premier lower middle market mergers & acquisitions investment banking firm, Edgeview Partners (now Piper Sandler) working to advise founder-owned and sponsor-backed companies during fundraising and sales processes. Brian began his career serving as a financial analyst prior to pursuing his MBA. Brian is an active contributor to the venture capital and growth equity ecosystem in Charlotte, NC where he resides with his wife and two children.

Brian earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from North Carolina State University and an M.B.A. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is a member of the CFA Institute.
