Jonathan Sherry is a Portfolio Advisor at Pilot Growth Equity where he assists Pilot’s portfolio in areas of growth and operations. Specifically, Jonathan’s expertise is in helping founders and CEOs mature their organizations from the hand-to-mouth stage of “how did we do last month?” to a more strategic, forward-looking one which asks “what are our goals for the next year (or three) and how are we going to meet them?” Jonathan’s expertise wasn’t developed in business school*, but rather on the job as co-founder and COO of CB Insights, taking the company from nothing to healthy eight-figure revenue and 250+ employees.
Jonathan joined Pilot from CB Insights, a Pilot-backed tech and research company he co-founded that empowers Fortune 500 executives to seize opportunities within emerging technology and use them to their advantage before they become competitive threats. As Chief Operating Officer, Jonathan’s experience ranged from executing to overseeing just about every critical part of the business spanning sales to marketing to engineering to data to executive recruiting to finance to human resources. Jonathan’s proudest achievement at CB Insights is building the company’s most unfair advantage: a high-performing inbound demand generation machine that produces over 30,000 new leads per month.
Prior to CB Insights, Jonathan worked at American Express where he met his co-founder Anand. He and Anand left American Express right before the 2008 Global Financial Crisis to launch CB Insights. It wasn’t a pretty start, but lessons in financial discipline were learned that proved invaluable as the company grew with time.
Earlier in his career, Jonathan spent time at Towers Perrin and Deloitte.
Jonathan holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from Columbia Business School.
Besides work Jonathan enjoys biking, running, skiing, pit BBQ’ing, building Lego and most recently learning to play the ukulele. He prefers to do most of these things with his wife and two children, with whom he resides in Westfield, NJ. Finally, Jonathan was born in Freehold, NJ which is proudly home to Bruce Springsteen.
